NO to Silence. A Call to Respect Human Rights and Lives

For nineteen months, we have been witnessing live broadcasts of war crimes committed by the Israeli army in the Gaza Strip.

While the rhetoric of Prime Minister Netanyahu’s extremist government and its allies frame these actions as a part of a democratic civilising mission, repeatedly invoking the fight against the terrorist movement, Hamas, families, and individuals in Gaza are being systematically denied their fundamental human rights.

A man-made famine and critical shortages of drinking water and medicine are used as war weapons.

A year and a half of bombing the Gaza Strip has had an impact comparable to the detonation of six atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima.

As of the end of May 2025, the Israeli army has killed in Gaza more than 53,000 people, over 17,000 of them children. This number of child victims equals the population of children in Hradec Králové.

More than 90% of homes have been damaged or completely destroyed. Two million people have been displaced, often multiple times. Most of the treatment plants, sources of water, and agricultural production have been demolished.

Schools and hospitals run by international organisations have become targets of military attacks. Testimonies from international doctors confirm that children are deliberately targeted. Paramedics have been intentionally killed.

While international criminal justice bodies and humanitarian organisations are documenting, condemning, and investigating these war crimes, the Czech government remains obstinately silent. When it does speak, it defends the Israeli government’s bloody actions. On the level of international politics, it votes against international ceasefire resolutions, and deepens cooperation with Israeli officials.

We have long since reached a point where the genocide being perpetrated in Gaza can no longer be ignored.

Making children suffer from famine and amputations have no place in the society we strive and need to be.

Let us take this tragic moment as an opportunity to speak out against war crimes.

Let us support the upholding of international law and the respect for human rights.
